Must-Try Recipes for July

July 4, 2013 By Melody Reyes Leave a Comment

Summer days are over and it’s getting cooler with rain starting to pour down one time or another.  It’s a great time to try new recipes that perfectly fit any weather, whether for the  cool rainy days or warm sunny days of July.  The following are must-try recipes we’d love to share with you.

Shrimp and Grits

Do you love occasionally having corn grits to replace your rice?  Then this recipe is for you.  Made of corn grits, shrimps, bacon, and some tossed green onions, this aromatic dish makes a wonderful breakfast treat for the whole family.  You can have it for lunch or dinner, too.  With lesser calories compared to rice, corn grits also make your tummy full and happy, especially once you have tried this recipe.  Another great thing about this recipe is that you can make a variation of it that the whole family will love.  You will also find lots of variation to this recipe, especially in the oceanic South of the United States, where this recipe originated.  Here’s a delicious shrimp and grit recipe from Simply Recipes you can try.

Mediterranean Chicken Salad

If you’re fond of serving salads during picnics, gatherings, or simply during meals at home, try this twist of chicken salad.  The Mediterranean chicken salad is made up of chicken cubes, olives, onions, and olive oil that will make your either cool or warm day simply special.  You can also mix in some pasta if you want to.  If you ask me why you should try this recipe, it’s simply because it’s delicious, healthy, and very easy to prepare.  Check out the recipe here.

Edible Flowers

Did I just mention “flowers”?  Yes, some flowers are actually edible, which you can use to add flavor and aroma to your dish.    Some of these flowers include rose, geranium, basil, and hibiscus.  Choose those that are grown free from harmful pesticides and other chemicals.  When we also talk about edible flowers, it’s not that you can actually pick a flower and use it right away.  There’s a proper way to prepare them, such as soaking them in clean water and drying them a bit before using.  You can click here to learn more about preparing edible flowers.

Mexican Shrimp Cocktail

Friends dropping by over the weekend and you have no idea what to serve them?  That’s not a problem.  The Mexican shrimp cocktail with some chips on the side can save your day.  Whether it’s warm or cold out there, this will make a great food for the whole group.  The cocktail is made up of shrimps, avocado, cucumbers, onions, celery, and tomatoes,  with some hot sauce and lemon juice.  What’s great about this recipe is that you can also use it as a dip to your chips besides devouring it using a spoon.  Here’s the link to the delectable Mexican shrimp cocktail recipe.

These recipes are not only delicious, but are also healthy and easy to prepare.  Try one now and let us know what you think.
