In the kitchen, a fall may be particularly damaging. Imagine falling while slicing, then landing on a tough tile floor. Non-slip shoes are essential for people who work in kitchens.

It can be exhausting to produce a meal, that pleases everyone, at the exact time that it’s needed. And that doesn’t even take into account the clean up! It can be quite a tiresome affair…though that needn’t be the case. As with anything, forward planning and preparation can lead to greater success.

By using the suggestions laid out below you’ll be better organized. You might be surprised to see that a meal can be prepared and cleaned away so quickly and effortlessly. You’ll also find that you’re better able to maintain a clean and organized kitchen.

1. Plan ahead. Any amount of planning will assist with the dinner making process, whether it’s following a full-blown meal plan, or just taking some meat from the freezer the day before.

2. Organize your kitchen. Just because you’ve always kept certain things in a particular place, doesn’t mean you should. Give away items that no longer get used and move the items that you most often use to places where they are more easily accessed.

3. Keep a plastic bag on the work surface where you cook. Do so, and you can drop all the garbage straight in there, rather than having it build up and get scattered around. Once you’re done, then you just need to make a single trip to the garbage can.

4. Place your ingredients back in the cupboard straight after you finish with them. Use some time to clean up while you cook, and you will be surprised at how much more manageable the state of your cooking area is when you’re done.

5. Buy in bulk where possible. Have dry goods on hand that you know you will use regularly in order to minimize the likelihood of last minute grocery store trips.

6. Wash a dish or two early. Sure there will be dishes to wash after everyone is done eating, but by cleaning some of the dishes used in the preparation in between simmers and stirs, there will be less.

7. Set the table as early as possible. If this task is out of the way early it won’t compete for your attention at mealtime.

8. Delegate. Make sure your members of your family know prior to eating what is expected of them i.e. doing the dishes, clearing their plates etc.

When live lobster for delivery shows up on your doorstep know you are in for a treat. Use care when picking up live lobsters and look to check that all claws have bands on them for your protection. Without these bands the claws can actually break a finger or two. You can take these off once you have cooked the lobsters and it is dead.

Defrosting frozen lobsters or their meats should be avoided as it detracts from their flavors when cooking. Do not overcook when heating they should only be warm not hot to the touch. The meat will become a lot tougher if it gets to hot or is cooked to long.

Boiling fresh live lobsters is done by placing them into a pot of boiling salted water for approximately 10 minutes a pound. Water should immerse the entire lobster within the big deep pot.

Lobsters heads hold much of the water they were boiled in so making a slight hole in them will drain out the cooking juices and seal the flavors in. The meat will be tender and mouthwatering when removed from the shells.

The water that you cook the lobsters in can be used as a base for seafood soups, pasta dishes and casseroles. It will only add to the flavor of these dishes. You can also freeze the broth until it is needed.

Healthy lobsters will put up a fight with you when you pick them up. Never cook a lobster whose tail is straight this means he died in transit or before cooking. You should always take a sniff of your lobsters before cooking to make sure they all smell of freshness. If there is a strange unrecognizable scent to them then never cook them as they could make you and your family sick. They are best cooked as soon as you receive them.

The harder shelled ones still taste great but are a little tougher and they take a longer amount of time when boiling. The softer shelled are considered to be the most tender of the two.

Grilling lobsters is another great and healthy way to prepare them. Whole lobsters are placed onto a hot grill and then left on one side til it turns bright red then turned and left on opposite side until that is the same in color. Serve with delicious garlic butter and gumbo if you have it on hand.

You can split live lobsters for delivery and cook on the grill too if a whole one is too much for just one person to eat. Place split sides down first and cook three minutes then turn to shell side and cook about 6 minutes longer. The shell will be the shade of bright red as it is when boiling when done. Add some lemon juice squeezed on it and of course butter and your ready to eat.

Cooking rice is quite a simple task. But, understanding the types of rice, the intricacies involved and giving a shot would enormously help you in making fluffy, non-sticky and fantastic rice for everybody at home. Here is a compilation that can help you relentlessly to cook rice fantastically with ease.

Some Pre-Requisites To Cook Rice

The prerequisites constitute a solid base (like in a rice cooker), the correct amount of water for the type of rice you use, a lid that snaps firmly to the cooking container and a post-cooking resting period of around 10-20 minutes.

Types of Rice

Brown Rice: Hull and the chaff removal of the rice grown in the paddy field are incomplete in this type of rice. Being the best form of natural rice, this type is the least processed variant of rice.

White Rice: The chaff and hull are completely removed and the rice is polished in this variant.  Sometimes, this variant is enriched with riboflavin, iron and niacin contents too.

Parboiled rice: This variant of rice is nutritious since it is subjected to steam and pressure before it undergoes milling procedure which in turn helps in the movement of the vitamins and nutrients from the outer surfaces to the marrow of the grain. It takes a bit of time to cook but testifies to contain high nutritional value than other variants of rice.

Pre cooked Rice: This variant undergoes a patented cooking procedure after which it is rinsed and dried. It takes a short time to cook this variant since a bit of hydration suffices.

Learn to Cook Rice: The Step By Step Procedure

Rinse the rice very thoroughly. Ensure that you do not rinse the rice if it is enriched since that would cause the loss of precious nutrients. Rinsing is done in case of rice variants that had used talc for polishing. It is also done with the aim of removing starch from rice so as to make it non-sticky.

Then add water. 1-1/2 or 1-3/4 is the ratio of rice and water that results in fluffy and non-sticky cooked rice. Brown rice and parboiled rice might need relatively large amounts of water. Keep the rice soaked in water for around 10 minutes only if it is old, else, don’t resort to this procedure of soaking rice in water before cooking.

Transfer the contents to the rice cooker and close the contents with a lid and ensure that the lid fits snug to the base. Witch the rice cooker to the ‘cook’ mode. The grains absorb water gradually and once the rice become devoid of water content, the steam within helps in getting it through. Once the rice gets cooked, automatically, the cooker gets into the ‘warm’ mode after which you will have to rest it undisturbed for around15 minutes. This in turn helps in the equal distribution of the moisture content throughout the cooked contents.

Once the rice is well cooked and the steam gets released, unplug the rice cooker from the electric socket and enjoy having fluffy, non-sticky and perfect rice!
